Comp or No Comp

Comp or No Comp

In my evening class I am amazed by the amount of students that are using their laptops to take notes during lectures. I don't have a laptop but I think the idea they have is great. Streamlining the note taking process is genius! What about students that don't even have computers at home to do their school work? I know it sounds strange this day in age to even think of a household not having a computer but many of these households do exist. Thank goodness for the free computers available for use on campus. Most essays for classes must be typed. Without a computer at home this poses a problem for some students. I have had the opportunity to use the free computers in the library. The process is easy. You simply scan your student ID card and a paper comes out of the machine listing the next available PC. The time limit is 30 minutes per day; however students have the ability to get two 10 minutes extensions if there are no other students waiting. I have even been able to get a third extension. I have used the lab between classes to get some much needed homework done. The availability of this lab is a great aid to students.
