Teen section in bookstore

I cannot help but laugh at the teen section in Barnes and Nobles. If the actual stories are not enough to complain about (the silly plot lines, the cheesy way female authors portray the thoughts of teenage girls) the covers of the books should just be made illegal. I don’t know what other girls aged 11ish to 16ish think of the literature aimed at them, but I remember being that age and feeling slightly offended. (I mean yes, there are a few good ones, but look at the majority). So we have lame stories that after reading eight or nine of them begin to sound pretty much the same (I mean, how many times can a girl realize that she doesn’t even like the cool football captain she is dating and then falls in love with the quiet artsy guy who draws her portrait in art class) and added to that there are the flashy (trashy) covers that try to sell you the story by looking colorful and promising. It is bad art trying to sell you bad art. Marketing knows that we are an extremely visual culture. An image can sell almost anything. But girls, let us demand better literature (stuff that actually captures reality) and no longer be fooled by beauty!
