The Unknown Learner
Behind this door you will find the home of a woman. This woman wants to remain anonymous because she is a student. It sounds strange for someone wishing to remain an anonymous student but she must if she wants to continue to receive financial aid. The aid I speak of is in the form of unemployment benefits. This student is attending a university online. When she reported that she was in school on her claim form she was immediately cut off from receiving benefits. When she explained to the EDD agent that she was taking all of her classes online he said she should stop going to school because EDD would not pay her benefits while attending a non approved training program. This story to me was sad. Why should someone not receive benefits they have worked for if they want to attend courses to obtain a degree? Is this fair? I can only imagine how many other anonymous students we have out there.
