These are Chinese Wuxia novels off my dad’s bookshelf. The English translation is Legend of the Condor Heroes. My dad grew up in China, where the Communist government oppressed his family. As a result, his education was not up to par. That forced him to go out of his way to find and read books on his own. Compare that to how my schooling has been: teachers force-feeding reluctant students some appraised content.
Unfortunately, my Chinese is only at about a first-grader’s level, so I have never actually read these books. However, I have watched—and thoroughly enjoyed—all the TV series that they have been converted to.
