Laney College

This is a picture of the central quad area of Laney College. What I saw was a diverse age and ethnic group of students. I came from a school that was mainly Asian, and seeing this huge difference shocked me. But what I learned is that this is a great thing, especially the age difference. Throughout high school, I often conversed with teachers but found it hard to really connect with them and their experiences because they were, well, my teachers. They had authority over me and that fact distanced us. In college, and especially this summer, I've had the pleasure of sharing classes with people twice or even three times my age and, from what I have noticed, twice or three times my wisdom.
